By attending this webinar, you will gain insights from a litigation lawyer’s perspective into the following areas:

(i) The tax appeal mechanism under the Inland Revenue Ordinance (Cap.112) (“IRO”), including the general
procedures and practical tips in relation to:
a. Lodging objections to the Commissioner;
b. Appeals to the Board of Review from the Commissioner’s determination (preparation of the case and
conduct of the appeal);
c. Appeals on a point of law to the High Court or Court of Appeal;
d. Further appeals to the Appellate Courts.
(ii) Dealing with the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) in relation to field audits and the extent of and limitations
on the IRD’s statutory powers under Part 9 of the IRO to obtain information from taxpayers and third parties.
(iii) A brief update on recent Hong Kong tax case law in relation to salaries and profits tax.

Speaker Profile

Rachel’s practice focuses on international arbitration, commercial disputes and tax litigation.
Rachel joined MinterEllison in 2018 as a trainee solicitor and completed her training in the Hong Kong office.
Prior to joining MinterEllison, Rachel received a J.D. from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, an LL.M. in
International Commercial Law from University of Nottingham and an LL.B. from Dalian Maritime University.
Rachel passed the PRC bar examination in 2015 and was admitted to practice as a solicitor in Hong Kong in
October 2020.

Will’s practice focuses on international arbitration, regulatory and white collar defence, commercial disputes
and tax litigation. His tax experience includes advising clients on field audits and settlement discussions with
the IRD and has acted on several judicial review cases against the CIR for corporate taxpayers and handled
appeals to the Board of Review and the Court.
Will is regularly ranked and recommended in Chambers Asia and the Legal 500 Asia in which he has been
praised by clients for his “sharp legal mind and responsiveness” and as being “very thorough, technically
outstanding and very supportive” and has been described by his peers as “sophisticated and strategic” and is
