20200603 Lunch & Learn: Can you end your commercial contracts early due to the COVID-19 pandemic?
Description
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, commercial contracts in a very wide range of industries and of different nature have been disrupted. The outbreak was subsequently announced by the World Health Organization as a pandemic. This led to further ripple effects and reactions of governments word-wide, entrepreneurs and also the general public. They together resulted in interruptions to performance of contracts to different extents.
Parties may wonder whether their contracts could therefore end, or whether their obligations and rights could be altered or suspended. In this webinar, I will introduce the concepts of “frustration of contracts” and “force majeure clauses” and the circumstances that may excuse parties from performing their obligations under commercial contracts. Also, I will suggest certain measures for preserving basic interests in commercial contracts.
