Dear fellow members, visitors and stakeholders,
Welcome to the Taxation Institute of Hong Kong!
As the President of the Institute, it is my pleasure to extend a warm greeting to all of you. Our Institute has long been recognized as a leading voice in the field of taxation, dedicated to promoting excellence, education, and ethical practices within the tax profession.
In these volatile economic times with significant Hong Kong financial deficit, the role of our Institute has never been more critical. We strive to provide our members with up-to-date information, resources, and advocacy that help them navigate the complex world of taxation.
Our core values
Our core values—integrity, expertise, ethics and commitment to service—continue to drive every aspect of the Institute. These values are not simply words; they are the principles that govern our actions and decisions, ensuring that we maintain the highest tax standards in all that our members do.
Addressing current challenges
The tax profession is faced with numerous challenges, from the rapid pace of technological advancement to the constant changes in tax regulations. At the Institute, we see these challenges as opportunities to innovate and improve. We thus represent the interests of the tax practitioners and the taxpaying public in the community before governmental bodies and policy-making organizations, ensuring that your voices are heard. We have actively participated in the consultation of the formulation of various tax policies and also the Hong Kong Budget.
Support
We provide support and networking opportunities that enable tax professionals to connect, share experiences, and learn from one another. The Institute’s 52nd Annual General Meeting has been held on 9 September 2024 successfully and it was a pleasure to have our office bearers, council members, advisers and fellow members to attend this brilliant annual event followed by a dinner with distinguished guests. My deep gratitude to all the strong support in the past year and the team will continue working together closely to enhance the greater development and more new initiatives of the Institute.
Educate and Promote
We offer a wide range of professional practice development programs, seminars, and workshop to keep our members informed about the latest developments in tax legislation and best practices. Two major events that recently held were 2024 TIHK Belt and Road Breakfast Conference and 2024 Annual Chartered Tax Agent Conference. We have the honor to have invited senior officers from the State of Administration of Taxation, Financial Services and Treasury Bureau, the Inland Revenue of Department and many others that graced our events.
Expanding global reach
In response to the globalization of business, we are expanding our reach to provide insights into international tax matters. The Institute remains actively engaged in international tax matters, maintaining close ties with global associations such as Chartered Taxation of Institute (CIOT) and Asia Oceania Tax Consultants’ Association (AOTCA),and contributing to a new phase of high-quality international collaboration. We are particularly excited that the next Belt and Road Initiative Tax Administration Cooperation Mechanism Forum will be held in Hong Kong in September 2024, providing a significant platform for strengthening mutual tax connectivity and advancing global tax development.
Practicing in the Mainland China
Following the release of the “Qianhai-Shekou Plan” and the “Nansha Plan” by the State Council, which outline a long-term development strategy for the Greater Bay Area (GBA), cross-border practicing rights for CTA members have further expanded to the Hengqin area. These milestones represent a significant achievement, supported by the Mainland tax authorities and TIHK’s dedication, enabling us to deepen professional ties and explore new collaboration opportunities in the GBA.
Community engagement
Domestically, the Institute remains committed to nurturing the next generation of tax professionals. Through signature initiatives such as the annual tax debate competition, Project WeCan, and voluntary tax services for the public, we promote the study of taxation and inspire young talent to pursue careers in this field. These programs not only connect industry professionals but also cultivate interest and engagement in taxation among aspiring members, contributing to the long-term growth and excellence of the profession.
Support career growth
We are passionate about supporting the career development of our members. From offering Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits to career counseling and mentorship programs, we are here to help you achieve your professional aspirations.
As we are approaching into 2025, telling a compelling Hong Kong story remains integral to our mission, and taxation is a vital part of that narrative. TIHK will continue to provide constructive contributions and recommendations to the Hong Kong SAR Government on budget proposals and tax policies, enhancing Hong Kong’s position as an international financial center, promoting innovation and technology strategies, and fostering the growth of family offices. These efforts aim to boost Hong Kong’s economic development and maintain its competitive edge.
If you are not yet a member, consider joining us. I am sure you will find a supportive network of tax professionals who are committed to excellence and continuous learning. If you are already our member, thank you for your continued support. Let’s make it a year that filled of growth, achievement, and impact.
